Yanchep Red Hawks Football Club have made an encouraging start to the 2009 Mercantile Football Asociation season.

In the annual pre-season match against Lancelin Pirates, the Red Hawks won by 12 points, claiming the ‘Cray Town Derby Sheild’ for the first time.

In another first, Yanchep is fielding two teams this season, Division 1 and Division 2. All home games will be double headers with Division 2 starting at 12noon. The Division 1 game will start at 2.30pm.

Yanchep Red Hawks Division 1 has had two good wins, including a strong performance over arch rivals and last season's premiers, Cockburn.

Red Hawks Division 2 team is showing some promise with a lot of local juniors progressing to senior football and results will come their way soon.

In the Mortlock Football League, Wongan - Balidu defeated Gingin Eagles 14-20 (104) to 9-12 (66).

LANCELIN PIRATES

The 2009 season for the Central Midlands Coastal League started on Sunday, 19th April. Both the Lancelin Pirates seniors and reserves suffered a loss in round one of the fixture.

Rnd 1 Seniors: Dandaragan 14-15 (99) def Pirates 9-8 (80). Reserves: Dandaragan 19-14 (128) def Pirates 1-3 (9).

Rnd 2 Jurien Bay 11-14 (80) defeated Lancelin 6-10 (46).
