Redhawk cricketers create history

11 Mar, 2010 01:42 PM
At Oldham Oval on Sunday, 28th February, Yanchep Redhawks Cricket Club G Grade played Wanneroo for the Tim Park 40/40 One Day flag in the North Suburban Community Cricket Assoc.

After winning the toss Wanneroo was asked to bat first. And with some excellent controlled bowling the Redhawks were able to keep Wanneroo to a total of 81 runs, all out, after 40 overs

The total didn’t seem much but, as players spoke in the change rooms prior to going out to bat - They still had to get the runs

After getting a steady start and being two for 52 after 15 overs, the Redhawks lost three quick wickets but managed to get the runs with wickets and overs to spare and finished with six for 82.

The game was played in great spirits and Wanneroo must be congratulated for their commitment to the end.

As for Yanchep, it was a great team effort by all with some excellent bowling; exceptional fielding and doing enough with the bat to get them over the line.

After being in the competition for four years and being in the finals each year without success it was great to create history and bring home a flag for what is Yanchep Redhawks Senior Cricket’s first ever flag, something they will cherish for many years to come.

Congratulations must go to Yanchep’s wicket keeper, Dan Norris, with his impeccable glove work in the final which saw him snare four brilliant catches, catching the umpires eye to be chosen Man of the Match.

The Yanchep Redhawks, would like to thank all their loyal supporters who turned to watch this memorable day.

The Redhawks are after the bigger prize in the two day competition. The G Grade side in a strong position to gain outright victory, assuring them to finish in top position at the end of the qualifying round and play in a semi final at home.

If successful they will host the grand final at Oldham Oval.

The D Grade team, are sitting fourth at the moment and virtually guaranteed a top four position. They have a chance to jump to second position if they secure an outright victory and a home final.

The Redhawks one day team were unfortunate not to finish in the finals this year.
