Visitation to the City of Wanneroo’s most popular beach area, Yanchep lagoon, has sky-rocketed this summer.
The narrow lagoon beach is very popular with locals and visitors to the area.
Finding parking at weekends and on hot days during the school holidays is virtually impossible.
Recently cars were parked both sides of the beach road from Two Rocks Road around to Wilkie Avenue and down Brazier Road.
The City of Wanneroo has a foreshore development plan for this area, but release of the final plans seem to be delayed.
Equally, the council has not indicated how it will be funded or when any major upgrades will commence at the lagoon area.
Local residents and visitors often complain about lack of parking and other facilities at the lagoon.
The toilet and shower facilities are very old and unable to handle the crowds that visit the lagoon areas most weekends.
There has been an increase in the number of incidents of people getting ‘fish-hooked.’
Concerns have been raised about irresponsible fisher-persons losing rigs with sinkers and hooks in the lagoon.
Some users of the lagoon would like to see the state government or the council ban fishing in the immediate lagoon area.
