Vital infrastructure update

19 Jan, 2012 11:43 AM
Last week, the City of Wanneroo provided the Sun City News with a current update on three major North Ward infrastructure projects that most residents are keen to see constructed.

Mayor Tracey Roberts said: “The city understands just how important sporting clubs are to a community, which is why we are working closely with the clubs involved in these projects so we can deliver the best outcomes for everyone who will be involved with these facilities.

“Sporting facilities for the North Ward is a priority and it’s great to see that progress is being made.”

Earthworks for the Yanchep Active Open Space, are scheduled to begin in March 2012 by the developer, Yanchep Beach Joint Venture, subject to final approvals and agreements being entered into by YBJV.

The City of Wanneroo’s design and documentation phase of the associated infrastructure, including two sporting ovals, a sports amenities building and car parking facilities has begun.

In the council’s ten year Capital Works Program a total budget of $5.2 million for the design and construction of the Yanchep Active Open Space, including the sports amenities building and the sporting ovals.

The City of Wanneroo continues to engage with the local clubs as to their requirements.

Initial consultation for the Yanchep Active Open Space has been undertaken with further consultation with the clubs in March 2012.

At the Yanchep Lagoon Re-development project, detailed design for the realignment of Brazier Road is nearing completion, with further statutory requirements to be carried out upon completion of the design.

The City of Wanneroo carried out an internal workshop for the Yanchep Lagoon Redevelop-ment, with the prime focus of establishing a basis for the concept design of the Brazier Road realignment, and determine a direction forward for future consultation with both statutory authorities and the Yanchep community for the overall Yanchep Lagoon Area.

One of the major outcomes of the workshop was the relocation of the YSLSC to the Yanchep Lagoon Area at the southern end of Picnic Cove in a built form that will incorporate a cafe, change rooms, toilet facilities and a possible community centre.

In the ten year Capital Works Program $2.05 million has been budgeted for the design and construction of Yanchep Lagoon Redevelopment, including the Brazier Road realignment.

Further public consultation for the Yanchep Lagoon Redevelop-ment project will occur in April.

Investigation into the viability of the proposed new Yanchep Surf Life Saving Club site at Yanchep Lagoon continues.

In the council’s ten year Capital Works Program a total budget of $3.9 million for the design and construction of the first stage of the YSLSC project has been allocated.

The council is waiting for the WA Planning Commission’s approval for preliminary geotechnical investigation at Picnic Cove for the YSLSC site.

The three projects are progressing, and probably not as fast as most local residents want. Being on the ten year capital works program is good, but residents are keen to see major funding included in the 2012/2013 council budget for substantial construction work.

Over the years, local residents have seen projects on the ten year plan, only to fade away or be delayed for unknown reasons. If residents want these facilities sooner, rather than later, they need to attend the Residents Association monthly meetings and seek action.

The Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association will hold their first meeting for 2012, on 23rd January, at the Phil Renkin Centre, starting at 7.30pm. All residents are welcome to attend.
