The Two Rocks Volunteer Sea Rescue Group have been requested to remove the ‘Prickle’ from Crown Land which is believed to be part of the Two Rocks marina.
The Prickle has an intriguing history, weighing in at 3.5 tonnes, this approximate 7 metre wide by 5.5 metre high structure was originally the land sale office for Alan Bond’s Yanchep Sun City.
Then, it was used for a short period as a craft centre and an ice cream parlour before being donated to the local sea rescue as a base station in 1991.
For the past ten years, the Prickle has laid idle overlooking the marina.
Late last year, the Two Rocks Volunteer Sea Rescue Group received a letter requesting the structure be moved.
The sea rescue group would like to see the Prickle remain in Two Rocks area, but are unsure what to do with the structure.
At the group’s last committee meeting, they decided to offer the Prickle to the community or any local group to take it away and use as they sees fit.
The sea rescue group is not seeking any payment for the Prickle, but whoever wants the structure will need to meet all removal costs.
Back in 1999, the Wider Horizons group was seeking ownership of the Prickle with the intention of relocating it to Charnwood Park as a community, historical information centre. This group is now defunct.
If the sea rescue group is unable to find a local owner for the Prickle, they are considering putting it on eBay and seeing what interest there is.
If neither of these actions can find a new owner, the group will cut the Prickle into moveable sized pieces and dump it at Tamala Park tip.
Two Rocks Sea Rescue Group president, Trevor Hutchinson said: “Sea Rescue would like to see the Prickle utilised in some way in Two Rocks.”
Yanchep Sun City Pty Ltd company secretary, John Poroch, told the Sun City News, that they did not own the structure and therefore did not have any interest in the future of the Prickle.
The Sun City News contacted the City of Wanneroo about the Prickle, but at the time of
