Over the past few months, quite a number of Yanchep and Two Rocks residents have contacted the Sun City News regarding the inconstant and unreliable local postal service which includes letters and parcels.
After investigation, the Sun City News found that most residents don’t understand how the local postal service works - The Two Rocks Post Office is not responsible for any home delivery of letters of parcels.
In fact, they are reliant on the various contractors for the letters and parcels picked up at the post office.
The delivery of letters and parcels to residential homes are carried out by various contractors, who are supposed to provide these services within a specific timeframe set down by Australia Post.
The Sun City News has evidence of letters taking ten days to get from Two Rocks to Yanchep and two months from Two Rocks to South Perth.
In a previous correspondence received from Australia Post, the spokesperson stated that Australia Post delivered 94 percent of their mail on time, as required by the federal government agreement.
This was the response to a statement published in a previous issue of the Sun City News where it was stated: “It was understood Australia Post lost about 100,000 letters a day.”
After recently lodging a media enquiry to Australia Post head office in Melbourne, within 48 hours, the Sun City News received a phone call from John Beswick, the Manager of Network Logistics at Australia Post requesting a meeting to look into these concerns.
Three Australia Post managers attended a meeting with the Sun City News editor, Terry Loftus, last week.
Mr Beswick detailed the Australia Post process and said if a letter was posted in Two Rocks or Yanchep before the collection time, it should reach its destination the next day.
When he was informed of the regular facts that this doesn’t happen, he became uncomfortable about the situation.
He offered to provide some tracking devices to check up on the movement of the mail.
Mr Robert Fell, the manager of Parcels in WA took onboard several complaints the Sun City News had received.
He said he would be looking into the operations and functioning of the parcel deliveries in Yanchep and Two Rocks.
Hopefully, over the next few weeks some answers will be forthcoming and some explanations are provided to the community about their delivery service.
