Police station condemned

08 Jul, 2010 03:29 PM
Representatives from the WA Police Union visited the Two Rocks police station, yesterday, and condemned the premises.

WA Police Union safety officer, Dave Lampard, told the Sun City News, the Two Rocks police station is the worst facility in Western Australia, and placed an Unsafe Condemned sticker on the front door and inside the building.

On the upside, Mr Lampard said the new Yanchep police station, on Yanchep Beach Road should be open about late August, this year.

This is not the first time the Two Rocks station has been described as the worst station in WA. About five years ago, in the police magazine, the station was labelled ‘The worst station in WA.’

It is believed the Two Rocks station will still be operational until they move into the new facility.

It is no surprise. But I congratulate those who have in the past and still work in the "Police Station".

If the Police Union were doing their job they would have demanded a better facility for their officers years ago and made a point of it.

The shame of the whole affair is that Governments, by private leasing, have placed them and their Officers are at the mercy of "developers" or "speculators" who might take rents without any thought of maintenance or the preservation of a reasonable standard .

Successive Governments in WA have chosen to take the easy option for years by leasing instead of building a decent facility.

Not only for those who protect us in this community, but for those of us who live here.

The truth of the matter is that the whole complex in which the station is housed appears to have lacked any proper maintenance, care or even a decent clean for a considerable period of time.

We currently have a generation of small business owners in Yanchep-Two Rocks who are keen, forward looking, energetic and supportive of the local community.

I hope their enthusiasm rubs of on the landlords.
