The City of Wanneroo has unveiled one of its new security measures, with Community Safety Patrols beginning last Monday.
Four highly-visible vehicles are now patrolling the streets of the City of Wanneroo, from 6.00pm to 6.00am, seven days a week.
City of Wanneroo Mayor, Jon Kelly, said the Community Safety Patrols were reintroduced after results from community customer satisfaction surveys.
“The City of Wanneroo recognises that community safety is a high priority for our residents, so we will be providing a visible presence within our City while protecting both private and Council property,” Mayor Kelly said.
“We will also liaise with WA Police on known or suspected criminal activity.”
Mayor Kelly said the new community safety patrol officers would be looking out for damage to property, graffiti, noisy parties and disruptive behaviour.
The night patrols would also complement the city’s existing ranger service.
“Not only will the patrols give us further security during the night, but it will enable our rangers to have an increased presence throughout the day,” he said.
Community safety measures will continue to increase later this month, when mobile CCTV cameras will be installed in the Community Safety Patrol vehicles, allowing even more monitoring.
This initiative is part of the Safer Suburbs CCTV Project, which will involve CCTV cameras being installed at locations throughout the city during March and April.
The City of Wanneroo received $1 million funding for the Safer Suburbs CCTV project from the Commonwealth Government’s Safer Suburbs Plan, as well as a $160,000 State Government grant for the CCTV project in the Wanneroo Town Centre. Community Safety Patrol: 1300 13 83 93.
