Recently, Two Rocks Volunteer Sea Rescue commander and boat skipper, David Haynes, with Sharyn Powell, Jim Smith, Ian Scott and Andy Butcher embarked on a helicopter training drill at sea about six nautical miles off Two Rocks marina.
The exercise was organised to help with the training of RAAF helicopter pilots and Two Rocks crew at recovering ‘man overboard’; radio work between pilot and navigator; and holding a steady course and speed into the wind as directed by the pilot.
The exercise included the drop man being lowered onto the vessel, followed by a stretcher and dummy.
The helicopter circled while their man was strapped into the stretcher and prepared for the lift back into the helicopter.
These exercises and other training sessions involving towing, navigation (day and night) boat handling, crew duties, first aid, radio operations are many of the skills the members of the Two Rocks Volunteer Sea Rescue members are very competent at.

TWO BOATS RESCUED
Last weekend, Two Rocks Sea Rescue were called out to two emergency calls at the same time. At 10.30am, three Yanchep men called in that they were taking water and needed help.
The Westpac rescue helicopter plucked the men from the water. Sea Guardian 2 took over six hours to bring the boat to Two Rocks marina.
About 3.40pm another boat was in trouble off Yanchep Lagoon. Two Rocks Sea Rescue towed the boat in.
