Fox shoot and research at Gingin

24 Jun, 2010 01:54 PM
Five Murdoch University students arrived the morning after a recent Gingin fox shoot to conduct post mortems on the 40 foxes that had been bagged the previous evening.

The students are studying foxes and feral cats throughout the state and collating data to provide a better understanding of their impact on Australia’s flora and fauna.

Gary Harley from the Vermin Action Group said: “I would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in the fox shoot.

“The support we received from the community was outstanding and the event was extremely successful.

“We intend to hold the shoot once a month, which in conjunction with an extensive baiting programme that will be conducted throughout the shire, should eventually give us some control of these vermin. It can only be a positive for the native wildlife trying to survive in our shire.”
