Dulcie Lampard, is a storyteller with a life-long passion for books.
Her school days began at a one-teacher school on the corner of her father’s farm in the Great Southern.
That bush school, like so many suffered from a famine of books.
As a child Dulcie was desperate to write, but during the Great Depression paper was scarce, so she used the margins of second-hand newspapers for her stories.
Her high school years were completed at Perth Modern School.
With brothers and cousins going to war she chose to forego her dream of teaching and remain at home with her parents.
The door later swung open to bookshop management. From what grew to be a large Christian Bookshop in the city of Perth, she managed branches across the State, cheerfully offering assistance with much more than books.
She was known on occasion to organize the sending of large household goods to the remote outback—just to help country customers.
It was a great delight to Dulcie to explore personally the overseas book world.
She is the author of two previous books, Ride and Saddle Up which are children’s stories, set in the Kimberley of Western Australia.
Retiring to six acres at Wooroloo in the Perth hills, she researched and wrote her latest novel, One Uncommon Woman.
Since coming to live at a Retirement Village in the suburbs, she has enjoyed entertaining residents with fascinating tales drawn from near and far.
She also edited the Village Voice news sheet, encouraging residents to write their own stories.
