Council’s computer system - bugged

In the last few days of the 2009/2010 financial year the Shire of Gingin’s computer system was affected by a computer virus.

The council’s computer system also had a firewall problem and one of the servers had crashed.

It took a computer technician nearly three days to resolve the problems, as the bug(s) kept replicating itself.

These problems caused the new Chief Executive Officer, David Burt, to cancel last Tuesday’s council meeting and reschedule the budget meeting.

Mr Burt told the Sun City News it was impossible to produce the agendas for the normal council meeting or the budget and he had no option than to reschedule the meetings.

Another staff member said: “Due to ‘significant’ bug infestation of our computer system, there is no alternative but to cancel the scheduled council meeting for Tuesday, 6th July, and re-schedule the draft budget meeting from Friday, 9th July, to Friday, 23 July, starting at 1.00pm.”

The next meeting of the council will be held on Tuesday, 20th July, with the Information Bulletin for July being included with the agenda for this meeting.

SPECIAL MEETING

After cancelling the 6th July meeting, Mr Burt discovered that there was a need to call a special meeting to deal with two planning department reports.

The first item related to the proposed final outline development plan for Lots 4, 5 and 6 Gingin Road and Lot 191 Miraglilotta Street, Lancelin and the requirement to comply with WA Planning Commission regulations.

The second agenda item to be considered behind closed doors, relates to a State Administrative Tribunal appeal regarding a supermarket and liquor store proposed at Lot 20 King Street/Walker Avenue, Lancelin. The council would be considering their legal advice on
