Complaints about rubbish collection

22 Dec, 2011 01:11 PM
With the recent bulk rubbish collection going on across the North Ward in the City of Wanneroo, a number of residents have raised concerns about the lack of recycling by the council.

A number of residents who say they have spoken with the workers collecting the bulk rubbish, asking them if its being recycled for various metal, plastics and many other recyclables.

The response, residents are receiving is that none of the bulk collection material is being recycled, it’s all being dumped at Tamala Park landfill site.

One resident told the Sun City News, it would only take one extra truck and two workers to separate all the metals and the council could sell them off for a profit.

The recent bulk rubbish collection has made several residents ask questions about the entire recycling process and how effective the council’s recycling system is performing.

COLLECTION TIME QUIZZED

A number of Yanchep and Two Rocks residents have, also, complained about the timing of the bulk collection - For the second year in a row, the collection has been scheduled a week before Christmas, when the City of Wanneroo’s most popular beaches and tourist attractions are near their highest visitation.

A Yanchep resident, phoned the council to complain about the timing, to be told that it was scheduled for a week before Christmas in Yanchep and Two Rocks up to 2015, and couldn’t be changed.

The Sun City News submitted two media enquiries, last week, to the City of Wanneroo seeking clarification on these concerns. When a response is received, it will be published.

STAFF WARNED

City of Wanneroo staff were recently issued a memo warning them to cease “the practice of collecting, storing and on-selling of scrap salvage during core hours with or in council vehicles or on city premises for personal monetary gain. . the practice is considered misconduct.”
