At last week’s Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association meeting, the state Member for Mindarie, John Quigley, ran through the processes leading up to the boardwalk questionnaire.
He went on to detail the inadequacies of the questionnaire in not taking into consideration the preferred option of the Bush Forever agency which was for a simple asphalt path behind the gardens of the two houses facing the elevated section of the boardwalk. This simple option was originally put aside by both residents and Bush Forever on the understanding that the path would be a low wooden based path meandering through the dunes, at some distance from the surrounding residences.
Mr Quigley reported that he had written to the Minister of Planning on this issue, and that he had drafted a letter to both the Chair of the State Planning Commission, and to Bush Forever, and was waiting permission from the meeting to send these letters.
A proposal was put forward at the meeting to accept that Mr Quigley should go ahead with these letters on the association’s behalf.
To further support the push to use the Bush Forever preferred route, Mr Quigley handed out copies of a petition asking residents to sign up, urging the WAPC to reject the results of the survey, on the grounds of inadequate and flawed consultation with the local community at Yanchep, by the City of Wanneroo.
Mr Quigley also offered to assist any resident who wished to pursue an action against the current boardwalk structure, with the State Administrative Tribunal.
Mr Quigley asked the association secretary, Ivan Ward, to place the petition on the association’s website, and to send a copy to as many people as possible that attended the special meeting on the Skybridge.
Catalyse, the company responsible for organising the Yanchep boardwalk questionnaire, are conducting an information evening on Tuesday, 30th March, at the Phil Renkin Centre, to discuss the results obtained from Yanchep residents. The meeting starts at 7.30pm.
