Last Saturday night, Sunday morning, around 2.00am, yet another fire appears to have been deliberately lit in the Yanchep Two Rocks region.
This fire was very close to houses along Yanchep Beach Road, between Marmion and Wilkie Avenue and Mullins Way, in the the Harford Grove Estate.
A female employee from the Yanchep Inn on her way home from work, noticed the fire and contacted triple zero, twice, to alert the fire service and police.
About eight fire trucks attended the blaze, which took about 30 minutes to get under control. It took several more hours to extinguish the embers that started a number of spot fires in Old Nursery Park.
Police turned up about 45 minutes after the alarm was raised.
With a 50kph easterly wind fanning the fire, embers drifted onto properties along Yanchep Beach Road.
Several home owners in Harford Grove Estate and along Yanchep Beach Road feared their homes may have been destroyed in the fire.
In the Yanchep Two Rocks region, over the past two years, about 100 fires have been deliberately started, mostly late at night.
Yanchep and Two Rocks residents are urged to be on the lookout for arsonists who have started these fires. Anyone with information, no matter how small, should call CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
Arsonists face up to 20 years in prison for lighting a fire that is likely to damage a person or property. If an offender wilfully destroys or damages property by fire, the maximum penalty is now life imprisonment.
A reward of up to $50,000 is available for information leading to the identification and conviction of people deliberately lighting fires in Western Australia.
