 Winter at last

Winter at last

After one of the longest and driest first five months for many, many years, it been wonderful to seel some lightning, thunder and rain. The other odd thing that appears when the winter season occurs it the appearance of stupid driving habits.

It's not that it just a winter activity, but winter seems to highlight the more stupid drivers.

Only yesterday, the first official day of winter, I was driving along Marmion Ave, between Butler and Yanchep.

I lost count of the number of drivers who couldn't stick to the speed limit of 80kph.

Wet, slippery roads seems to bring out the manic, gotta go faster, more aggressive type of drivers.

The sad part about these type of drivers it that they don't care about anybody, except themselves.

To add to the dangerous mix, a trail bike rider and a quad bike with two people were hacking it along the side of Marmion Ave, and delighted in criss-crossing the road at least three times.

These two riders looked like they were on a suicide mission.

At one stage, there was ten cars heading north, two learner drivers and these two bike manics - What a formula for a major tragic accident.

So what is the solution?

There is a percentage of people how want the speed limit increased on Marmion Ave.

My suggestion would be, if there are going to increase the speed limit, then the drivers need to show better road manners.

My guyess is if you increase the limit to 90, 100, 110kph, the majority of driver will still drive at 10 to 20ks over the limit.

It's the nature of the beast!

Secondly, the trail bikes and quad bike problem needs to be seriously addressed.

Land owners need to be responsible and appropriate fencing needs to be installed.

The placement of a 'warning sign' doesn't wash. - Its a cop out!

Get real and put up the proper fencing and the riders will be kept out and reduce the problem.

Local council and the state government also have an important role to play in this problem.

They approved these important roads, and know what sort of problems will follow, then throw lip service at the problem.

Get real and condition the approval, then make sure it is enforced.

You never know, you just might save someone's life of a life a tragic injuries and suffering.

What do you think?
