 Police should seize mobile phones.

Police should seize mobile phones.

Drivers seemed to be obsessed with using their mobile phone while driving their car.

Reading SMS text messages, sending messages, downloading photos and movie clips, twittering and even surfing the net are just some of the antics distracting people while driving their car.

The use of mobile phone while driving a car is increasing beyond belief. Police appear to be taking no action against these offenders.

It time the state government legislated to allow police to seize the mobile phone of a driver caught using it while driving.

Simply banning mobile phones while driving doesn't work.

Over 50 countries have already banned mobile phones, but drivers continue to use their phone regardless.

Implementing an instant seizure, gives the driver a powerful incentive to stop this antic.

If every police car carried a few padded postal envelopes, the police officer could simply instruct the offending driver to write their name and address on the envelop, place the phone in the envelop, then drop it in the nearest mailbox.

Then 14 days later the phone is return.

This strategy would have an instant effect.

The punishment immediately follows the crime and the offenders while instantly link the cause and effect.

Secondly, with the life of most young people is totally focused around their mobile phone.

Loss of their phone has instant serious consequences and is a powerful motivation to change their bad habit.

Finally, mobile phones are expensive, if they are seized, the offender would have to pay a significant amount of money to replace it.

This would be a further deterrent to comply.
