The tradition of having Australia Day as a national holiday on 26 January is a recent one.
By 1935 all the Australian states and territories used the name 'Australia Day' to mark the date.
Then by 1994 we begin celebrating Australia Day consistently as a public holiday on 26 January, and the Australian of the Year Award began.
And now, we celebrate Australia Day all sorts of events and activities - BBQ breakfasts, Aussie thong parties and fireworks.
