I thought a budget was a document that show how a nation, state, business or household was going to manage their monetary affairs and prosper for the future, but it appears our latest batch of politicians have different ideas.
Going into debt, promising the world and telling us what well can get in 2011 or 2020 is the latest from the politicial spin doctors.
Being told I can qualify for parental maternity leave in 2011, is nearly as crazy as the baby bonus.
Family planning has been tossed upside down.
Currently you can get a baby bonus of about $4000, but in 2011 you will qualify for parental marternity leave.
Where will it end?
Personally, I think our so-called politicians need a giant reality check. They need to get back in touch with the real world.
They need to experience just how tough many families are doing it at the moment.
I'd like to see Kevin Rudd, Malcolm Turnbull, Colin Barnett, and a few other politicians locked up in a house with a dozen kids and survive for a month.
I'm sure they'd have a different opinion then.
And wouldn't it make great TV viewing too!
