Australia Post need to lift their game not prices

As a business person who spends over $10,000 a year on Australia Post services, I am disgusted at the thought they want to hike postage prices up another five cents.

As a small business operator who has to budget every penny, I find it obscene that monopoly companies like Australia Post can just decide they need to increase their prices by ten percent, or thereabouts, without really justifying it to the general public.

I like most, if not all businesses, have felt the effects of the world economy and the squeeze.

If I try to lift my prices, I get all sorts of complaints and end up losing customers.

Australia Post provide an essential service that has deterorated over the paast five years in my view.

Here are just a few example I have experienced.

1. Buy a Next Day Delivery Express package in some parts of the Perth metro area, and it won't get delivered the next day.

2. I've lost count at the number of letters my business has posted and they just disappear.

Complain to Australia Post and the bureaucrats come out and tell you how many letters get delivered every day.

They never tell you that they lose up to 100,000 plus letters every week.

3. Across the metro area and throufghout the rural area they have numerous Australia Post agencies. Try and get a costing for posting a parcel from point A to Point B. The prices quoted vary by as much as 50 percent.

Then ring Australia Post enquiries - Its a nighmare.

4. Letters being delivered to the wrong address - I'm sick and tired of returning letters, marked NOT AT THE ADDRESS.

Only last week, I reposted a letter I marked NOT AT THIS ADDRESS, just what Australia Post did, three days later they redelivered it to me.

Finally, guess how long Australia Post take to deliver a letter 10 kilometres in the Perth Metro area?

I often post letters at the Two Rocks Letter collection box, and they take up to four days to get delivered to a Yanchep address.

This is the 21st century and with all the new technology available Australia Post with its millions should be providing a better service every day.

Before any postage increases, Australia Post should be fully and independently investigated to show that they are worthy of increasing their prices.

What do you think?

They are basically into selling knick knacks and things from their outlets now not delivering a core service.

The Commonwelath Ombudsman receives such a volume of complainst about AP that they have set up a Australia Post Ombudsman - you can find it on the net - you shoud complain to them.

I agree the Express Bag thing is a total sham.

They are totally incapable of doing what they say.

They definitely don't deliver.

I posted a digital camera to someone from prospect in Tasmania to a person in Queensland.

We registeded it as we thought we were protected as it is 'tracked' the camera was worth around $1400.00 and I sold it to this person for $800.00.

We also nominated person to person delivery and to have a receipt sent to us upon delivery.

After we posted it there was NO TRACE what so ever, the person didn't aknowledge our person to person request so we weren't charged for it and they said because it wasn't paid for it doesn't stand.

They (Australia Post) also inform us that not all their post offices have a scanner to scan them before they leave the post office .

They should have to inform customers of this at the time they are posting.

After weeks of phone calls and waiting for it to be sorted out they get back to us and tell us they cant find it and will only compensate $100.00 for the camera.

So I lost my camera and had to refund the buyer.

All I have to show for it is $100.00.

We complained to the Ombudsman on the internet this was weeks ago and they haven't even got back to us.

If it becomes the property of Australia Post when sent they should cover it with their insurance.

I will not use Australia Post again their are couriers
